Advice for Future Educators
I would recommend that new educators take the time early on to create systems of organization in ways that work best for them. I was very unorganized when I began teaching and I spent so much time finding and creating materials that I reivented the wheel several times over.
Another piece of advice I would give to new educators is that your personal time is precious and to not over extend working at a sprinting pace. The addage is correct, this is indeed a marathon and pacing was something I had to regulate because I was feeling overwhelmed by the countless tasks I felt needed to be immediately addressed.
Most proud of
At this time, I am most proud of how our winter concert was executed. My students were well prepared by keeping a pracitce routine in and out of the classroom. Students in leadership positions effectively organized and mentored others. Families and community members supported our efforts by encouraging and actively participating as an audience. My site administration was incredibly helpful in mantaining orderly introductions, tansitions, and departures. There were also opportunities to better plan and organize our next concert in the spring.
